Linen fabric is a leading material for bedding due to its durability, hypoallergenic and breathable properties, moisture-wicking effects, and ability to go softer and stronger with use over time. Linen sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers are all-natural fabrics that are easy to take care of.
We recommend washing your linen fabric by itself for the best results.
For washing, you can use regular liquid laundry detergent with warm water temperature. A wash on your machine’s ‘Permanent Press’ setting is also ideal.
Avoid using chlorine bleach if you should happen to stain your linen fabric to avoid damage. Instead, pre-treat stains before throwing them in the wash.
Linen bedding should be washed according to color. Don’t make the mistake of washing darker colors with white or ecru linen!
Take some time to sort that laundry before getting started. If you are short on time and need to combine loads, wash linen bedding with other natural fibers like cotton and bamboo—not synthetics.
Because linens are a natural material, you may still experience some wrinkling even if you perfect the washing/drying process. If the wrinkles are bothering you, feel free to iron them.
There are two primary methods of ironing linens properly.
Some people like the natural, rumpled look that linen provides and never iron their linens.
If you prefer a neater look, iron your linen bedding after each wash. You should always iron your bedding when it is slightly damp to reduce damage.
Never store your linens with any dampness; this can cause both mold and mildew growth.
You’ve heard it before and the same applies to linens: store them in a cool, dry place. Keep them out of direct sunlight to avoid fading and damage to the material’s natural fibers.
Additionally, it’s not a good idea to store your linens in plastic bags. This can encourage dampness accumulation.
Linen fabric is an awesome natural material that is both a beautiful and comfortable solution for your bedding. Caring for your linens is surprisingly rather easy and doesn’t require much intensive work—especially if you don’t mind a few wrinkles. And if you do, it’s not difficult to bust out the iron and remove them.
